Behind the Print with Rhi James

At Soma® we love bringing unique prints to your wardrobe. We’re excited to share our newest limited edition satin sleepwear designed by Australian-based artist Rhi James of Hebe Studio. Her beautiful paintings are inspired by her world travels. Each of her pieces is a unique connection to a destination or culture she has experienced. Rhi’s goal is to transport people across the world through her art and we’ve had the pleasure of chatting with her to learn more about her creative muses.

What inspired you to paint these images? What inspires you in general?

“My artworks are all generally inspired by the places I travel to. I always aim to recreate the vibe and the feelings from places I go and try to replicate it through my art.”

Can you share a bit about the two landscape scenes you created for us?

“These artworks are inspired by mountain walks and colourful gardens and cityscapes. They represent the joy of being outside and exploring new places, and the patterns in nature. I love that you can connect to these places through wearing them.”

Tell us about your thoughts on the intersection of art and fashion. Why do you think they go together?

“Before I ran Hebe Studio I was actually a fashion print designer so to me there has always been a link between fashion and art. I love creating artworks and then seeing them come to life in the form of garments. It creates an extra dimension to the artworks.”

What does your ideal getaway look like?

“My favourite vacation includes some kind of cultural aspect. I love exploring different cultures and experiencing something completely different from my everyday life. I always prefer hotter climates and always love to relax in the sun."
